Electrolux Dryer E42 Error Code

Electrolux says E42 means the dryer is detecting an open door. Start with normal closure and visible obstruction checks rather than assuming the latch switch or control has failed.

  1. Record E42 and stop the dryer

    • Photograph the display and note the complete model number.
    • Wait for the drum to stop before checking the door opening.

  2. Clear visible obstructions

    • Remove clothing or debris caught between the door and opening.
    • Wipe loose lint from the visible latch area without inserting tools into the latch mechanism.

  3. Close the door normally

    • Close the door firmly without slamming it and confirm it stays shut.
    • Inspect only the visible latch and strike for obvious damage; do not remove the switch or front panel.

  • Do not bypass or tape down a door switch.
  • Do not force a door that will not close normally.
  • Do not remove panels or test live wiring to chase E42.

  • E42 returns with the door fully closed and no visible obstruction.
