Electrolux Refrigerator H / HI Error Code

Electrolux documents H or HI as a high-temperature alarm. A door left open, an incorrect temperature setting, or a poor door seal can contribute, and the alarm can also appear while the appliance recovers after a power interruption.

Possible causes

  • A refrigerator or freezer door may have been left open or may not be sealing fully.
  • The temperature setting may have been changed from the recommended range.
  • The cabinet may still be recovering after a power outage or extended door opening.
  • A persistent high-temperature condition can require qualified cooling-system or control diagnosis.

Safe preliminary checks

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Record the alarm before clearing it

    • Photograph H, HI, or High Temp and note which compartment is affected.
    • Confirm the complete model number and use-and-care guide because alert controls vary by model.

  2. Check doors, seals, and settings

    • Close all doors fully and make sure food or containers are not preventing a normal seal.
    • Inspect only the visible gasket for folds, debris, or obvious gaps and clean it as the model manual allows.
    • Electrolux lists 37°F for the refrigerator and 0°F for the freezer as recommended kitchen settings; use the exact model guidance if it differs.

  3. Acknowledge the alert and allow recovery

    • Use CLEAR ALERTS, Alarm Reset, or the exact model-supported control to acknowledge the alarm.
    • Avoid repeated door opening while temperatures recover.
    • If the model documentation calls for a reset, Electrolux also documents unplugging for about 30 seconds on applicable models; do this once rather than repeatedly cycling power.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not remove rear or interior panels to reach fans, sensors, controls, compressors, or sealed refrigeration components.
  • Do not keep resetting a refrigerator that remains too warm instead of addressing food-safety and service needs.
  • Do not assume H or HI identifies a failed temperature sensor or compressor.

When to stop and request service

  • H or HI returns after the doors are sealing, settings are correct, and the appliance has had reasonable time to recover.
  • The refrigerator or freezer cannot maintain safe temperature despite normal use.
  • There is repeated breaker tripping, burning smell, visible wiring damage, unusual overheating, or any need for internal electrical or sealed-system diagnosis.
