The unit entered a freeze-protection state to protect against an excessively cold or icing condition.

What may contribute

Possible causes

  • Freeze protection may engage when the indoor coil becomes too cold.
  • A dirty filter or blocked front/rear airflow can contribute to icing.
  • Frigidaire notes that cooling when outdoor temperature is below about 60°F can contribute to indoor-coil icing.

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Let visible ice dissipate naturally

    • Turn cooling off. If ice is visible, leave the unit off or use Fan Only if the model instructions allow it, and wait until the ice has melted before restarting cooling.
    • Do not scrape, chip, heat, or bend the coil fins.

  2. Restore normal airflow, then reset once

    • Unplug the unit before removing and cleaning a reusable filter. Let the filter dry completely, and move curtains or furniture away from the intake and discharge.
    • After icing has cleared, use Frigidaire’s up-to-30-second power reset. If F1 returns, request service.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not chip ice with tools or apply a heat gun, hair dryer, flame, or hot water to the coil.
  • Do not run cooling with blocked vents or a wet filter.
  • Do not access refrigerant tubing, sensors, or internal wiring.

When to stop and request service

  • F1 returns after the unit is thawed, filter is clean, airflow is clear, and one reset is completed.
  • Icing repeatedly returns in normal ambient conditions.
  • Cooling performance is poor or diagnosis would require internal sensor, fan, control, or sealed-system work.
