Frigidaire Room air conditioner F2 Error Code

Allow at least the manufacturer-documented five-minute defrost period, address only safe external airflow issues, and reset once. Repeated F2 needs service rather than repeated forced restarts.

Applies to Frigidaire room air conditioner showing F2 freeze protection

What the appliance detected

Detected condition

The unit detected a freeze-protection condition and needs time to defrost.

What may contribute

Possible causes

  • The indoor coil may have become cold enough to trigger freeze protection.
  • A dirty filter or blocked airflow can contribute to icing.
  • Low outdoor temperature during Cool mode can contribute to coil icing.

Start conservatively

Safe preliminary checks

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Allow the documented defrost period

    • Stop cooling and allow the unit to defrost for at least five minutes. If visible ice remains, wait until it dissipates before restarting cooling.
    • Use Fan Only only if the model instructions permit it; do not apply external heat to speed defrosting.
  2. Check filter and airflow before one retry

    • With power disconnected, clean a dirty reusable filter and let it dry completely. Remove curtains, furniture, or covers that block the front or rear airflow path.
    • Restore power and try normal operation once. If F2 returns, request service.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not chip, scrape, or heat an iced coil.
  • Do not keep cycling power to force the unit through repeated freeze-protection events.
  • Do not remove the cabinet or access refrigerant, sensor, fan, or control components.

When to stop and request service

  • F2 returns after defrosting, clear airflow, a clean filter, and one normal retry.
  • The unit ices repeatedly when conditions are suitable for cooling.
  • The fan is not moving air normally or internal diagnosis is required.
