Possible causes

  • The dishwasher may be out of level enough to actuate the overfill or float switch.
  • A float-switch, wiring, control, water-level, or installation issue may require service if the code returns.
  • The code does not prove that the float switch itself is defective.

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Check leveling without removing panels

    • Use a level on an accessible, stable surface as described by the installation or owner literature.
    • Do not loosen mounting hardware, move a hard-plumbed dishwasher, or reach below the tub if the correction is not straightforward.

  2. Power cycle once after safe leveling checks

    • If the dishwasher is stable, dry externally, and there are no leak or electrical warning signs, disconnect power for 30 seconds.
    • Restore power once. If F6 E4 returns, schedule service rather than accessing the float switch.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not bypass, jumper, disconnect, or electrically test the float switch.
  • Do not remove the toe-kick or base solely to reach the switch or wiring.
  • Do not continue operating if there is actual water leakage.

  • F6 E4 returns when the dishwasher is correctly leveled.
