Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Record the display and confirm the model

    • Photograph or write down the exact display before changing anything: F8 E5.
    • Confirm the complete Maytag model number and compare the display with the owner documentation for that exact microwave.

  2. Try one Maytag power reset

    • If there is no smoke, burning odor, repeated arcing, visible door damage, active water intrusion, abnormal overheating, or repeated breaker trip, switch the microwave circuit breaker off for one full minute.

  • Do not replace a keypad, sensor, thermistor, control board, relay board, or other internal part from the displayed code alone.

When to stop and request service

  • Request qualified microwave service if the code returns after the single Maytag one-minute power reset.
  • Leave power disconnected and arrange service immediately for smoke, a burning odor, repeated arcing, a repeated breaker trip, visible door or wiring damage, water near electrical parts, or abnormal heat that does not subside normally.
