Whirlpool Washer F8 E2 Error Code

Whirlpool directs owners to check whether the detergent drawer, cartridge, or bulk dispenser is clogged, empty, or installed incorrectly on applicable models. Owner cleaning should stay within the removable dispenser procedure documented for the exact washer.

Applies to Select Whirlpool washer with a detergent dispenser system

What the appliance detected

Detected condition

The washer detected a problem with the detergent dispenser system.

What may contribute

Possible causes

  • Detergent residue is clogging the owner-accessible dispenser or cartridge area.
  • A removable cartridge or bulk dispenser is not seated correctly.
  • The bulk dispenser may be empty on a model that expects detergent in that reservoir.
  • A persistent dispenser sensor, mechanism, wiring, or control condition requires service.

Start conservatively

Safe preliminary checks

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Record the code and identify the dispenser type

    • Photograph F8 E2 and record the full model number.
    • Use the owner manual to determine whether the washer has a drawer, cartridge, bulk dispenser, or another dispenser design.
  2. Inspect only the normal owner-accessible dispenser

    • Open the dispenser normally and look for heavy detergent buildup, an incorrectly seated cartridge, or an empty bulk reservoir if the manual says that reservoir should contain detergent.
    • Do not force a stuck drawer or disassemble anything beyond the normal removable parts described by Whirlpool.
  3. Clean removable dispenser parts only as documented

    • If the exact model allows removal, wash the removable dispenser parts with warm water and mild detergent as Whirlpool directs, then rinse and dry them before reassembly.
    • Reinstall the cartridge or drawer fully without forcing it.
  4. Use one documented power cycle if needed

    • If the model-specific Whirlpool guidance calls for it, disconnect power for five minutes and then retry once.
    • If F8 E2 returns, stop and request service instead of repeatedly resetting.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not remove panels or access internal dispenser pumps, valves, sensors, tubing, wiring, or controls.
  • Do not use sharp tools or harsh chemicals to clear dispenser passages.
  • Do not force a drawer or cartridge that will not move normally.

When to stop and request service

  • F8 E2 returns after the documented dispenser cleaning/seating checks and one supported reset.
  • The dispenser, drawer, cartridge, or visible mechanism is broken or will not seat normally.
  • Any internal dispenser-system diagnosis or repair is required.
