KitchenAid Microwave E24 Error Code

E24 is an abnormal-temperature safety code. KitchenAid lists the thermal sensor, gas sensor, appliance control board, or associated wiring as possible areas involved, but the display alone cannot identify the failed part.

KitchenAid says E24 is displayed when the oven reaches an overheat condition of 500°F (260°C).

What may contribute

Possible causes

  • The microwave may have reached an abnormal internal temperature.
  • A thermal or gas-sensor circuit may not be reporting normally.
  • The appliance control, cooling path, wiring, or another internal component may require professional diagnosis.

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Record the exact code and model first

    • Photograph or write down the complete display before resetting it: E24.
    • Confirm the full KitchenAid model number and whether the appliance is over-the-range or built-in. KitchenAid code meanings can vary by product family.

  2. Let an overheated microwave cool naturally with power off

    • If the microwave feels unusually hot, leave power disconnected and allow it to cool naturally. Keep the door area and exterior vents unobstructed.
    • Do not use water, ice, compressed air, a hair dryer, or another forced-cooling method, and do not restart the microwave while it remains unusually hot.

  3. Try the KitchenAid power reset once, only when conditions are safe

    • If there is no smoke, burning odor, arcing, unusual overheating, visible damage, active water intrusion, or repeated breaker trip, disconnect power at the plug or breaker for one minute.
    • Restore power once and monitor the display. If the code returns, stop using the microwave and request qualified service rather than repeating resets.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not remove the outer cabinet, control panel, vent housing, waveguide cover, or any microwave service panel.
  • Do not touch or test the high-voltage capacitor, transformer, inverter, magnetron, internal fuses, relays, thermistors, sensors, interlock wiring, or control boards. Dangerous voltage can remain after power is disconnected.
  • Do not perform live-voltage, resistance, continuity, capacitor-discharge, or internal connector testing as a homeowner troubleshooting step.
  • Do not bypass, tape, bridge, defeat, or adjust a door-interlock switch, and do not operate a microwave with a damaged or misaligned door.
  • Do not replace a board, sensor, thermistor, relay, switch, or wiring harness from the display code alone.

When to stop and request service

  • If E24 appeared with smoke, burning odor, arcing, melted material, or severe overheating, do not restore power for a reset. Arrange qualified service.
  • Request qualified microwave service if the code returns after the single KitchenAid power reset.
  • Leave the appliance powered off and seek service immediately for smoke, a burning odor, repeated arcing, abnormal overheating, a damaged door, visible wiring damage, water near electrical parts, or repeated breaker trips.
