LG Microwave L / Loc Error Code

L or Loc is usually a status message, not a hardware fault. Child Lock intentionally disables normal control-panel operation. Unlocking steps differ among LG models, so identify the model first and use the documented key sequence for that model.

Possible causes

  • Child Lock or Control Lock was intentionally enabled.
  • A key may have been held long enough to enable the lock unintentionally.
  • If the lock indication clears but the panel still does not respond, a door-closure, control-panel, or electronic issue may require service.

Start conservatively

Safe preliminary checks

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Confirm that the display is showing a lock status

    • Look for L, Loc, or a lock icon and record the full LG model number.
    • Do not treat the lock message as proof of a failed keypad or control board.

  2. Use the model-specific Child Lock procedure

    • Check the model manual or LG support page for the exact lock/unlock key. LG documentation shows that the key and hold time can differ by model.
    • Use only the normal front-panel key sequence specified for your model. Do not remove the control panel or access an internal switch.

  3. If the controls remain unresponsive, try one power reset

    • LG USA says an unresponsive keypad can be power-reset by unplugging the microwave or turning off its circuit breaker for 2 to 3 minutes, then restoring power once.
    • If the lock indication is gone but the controls still do not respond, request service rather than opening the appliance.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not remove the outer cabinet, control panel, waveguide cover, vent housing, or any microwave service panel.
  • Do not touch or test the high-voltage capacitor, transformer, inverter, magnetron, internal fuses, relays, sensors, door-interlock wiring, or control boards. Dangerous voltage can remain after power is disconnected.
  • Do not perform live-voltage, resistance, continuity, capacitor-discharge, or internal connector testing as a homeowner troubleshooting step.
  • Do not bypass, bridge, tape, defeat, or adjust a door-interlock switch, and do not operate a microwave with a damaged or misaligned door.
  • Do not replace a keypad, sensor, control board, relay, switch, or wiring harness from a display message alone.

When to stop and request service

  • Request service if the Child Lock is off but the keypad remains unresponsive, buttons behave unpredictably, or the door will not close normally.
  • Do not use the microwave if the door, latch, hinges, or seal surfaces are visibly damaged or misaligned.
