LG Range HS Error Code

HS is a hot-surface warning, not a diagnosis. Keep hands and heat-sensitive items away while the surface cools; troubleshoot only if the indicator remains on after the cooktop is fully cool.

LG says HS indicates the cooktop temperature is above 150°F and is not an error code.

What may contribute

Possible causes

  • Normal residual heat after a surface element or burner has been used.
  • A recently hot cooktop that has not yet cooled below the indicator threshold.
  • A persistent indicator condition if HS remains when the surface is at room temperature.

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Treat the surface as hot

    • Keep hands, children, paper, plastic, and other heat-sensitive items away from the cooking surface while HS is shown.
    • Allow the cooktop to cool naturally; do not use water, ice, or forced cooling.

  2. Recheck only after full cooling

    • Once the cooktop is clearly at room temperature, check whether HS has turned off on its own.
    • If the indicator is gone, no repair action is indicated by HS itself.

  3. Reset only a false persistent indication

    • If HS remains when the surface is fully cool, LG directs owners to turn the range circuit breaker off for 30 seconds and restore power once.
    • If HS returns on a cool surface, request service rather than continuing to reset the appliance.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not touch the surface to test whether it is hot.
  • Do not cool the cooktop with water, ice, fans, or other improvised methods.
  • Do not open the appliance or bypass a temperature or hot-surface sensing circuit.

When to stop and request service

  • Request service if HS remains or returns while the cooktop is confirmed at room temperature after one supported reset.
  • Stop using the cooktop if there is smoke, cracking, sparking, a burning odor, or abnormal overheating.
