Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Record the display and model

    • Photograph or write down whether the washer shows F8 E1, LF, or LO FL.
    • Confirm the full model number and owner manual before following any model-specific hose or screen instructions.

  2. Let the documented drain routine finish

    • If the door is locked and controls are unresponsive, Whirlpool says pressing Power may start a drain routine that can run about 8 to 10 minutes.
    • Wait for the routine to finish before trying other controls.

  3. Check visible water supply

    • Make sure both hot and cold water valves are fully open and the required hoses are connected.
    • Visually check for kinks, pinching, reversed hot/cold connections, or obvious hose restrictions without moving the washer unsafely.

  4. Use only documented screen or hose checks

    • If the manual supports checking inlet screens or flowing water through disconnected hoses, turn off water and disconnect power first.
    • Stop if a hose, valve, or screen cannot be accessed and reconnected without damage or leakage.

  5. Check visible drain-hose placement

    • Compare the visible drain-hose installation with the model instructions.
    • Do not remove panels, reach behind a tight installation unsafely, or alter hidden plumbing.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not remove washer panels or access internal valves, wiring, sensors, or controls.
  • Do not disconnect hoses while water valves are open.
  • Do not repeatedly reset the washer without correcting a documented supply or installation issue.

When to stop and request service

  • The code continues after documented visible supply, hose, drain-hose, and model-supported inlet checks.
  • A hose, valve, or connection leaks or cannot be operated safely.
  • The washer would need internal diagnosis or repair.
