What the appliance detected
Detected condition
Water is not entering the washer correctly.
What may contribute
Possible causes
- A hot or cold water-supply hose that is connected to the wrong inlet, bent, kinked, or pinched.
- A water-supply valve that is not completely open.
- A missing hot-water connection when the washer attempts to use hot water, including during some cycles labeled Cold.
- A drain hose that is kinked or not installed as documented for the model.
- Debris restricting the user-accessible water-supply filters.
Start conservatively
Safe preliminary checks
Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.
Record the exact code and model number
- Photograph or write down whether the washer displays 4C, 1 4C, nF, or 4E before resetting or disconnecting it.
- Confirm the full model number and use the owner manual for the hose layout and any filter access.
Check the visible water-supply setup
- Confirm hot is connected to hot, cold is connected to cold, and both supply hoses are present when the model requires them.
- Look for visible bends, kinks, or pinched sections without moving the washer unsafely.
- Confirm both water-supply valves are completely open and that Flood Safe hoses are not being used.
Review the visible drain-hose installation
- Confirm the drain hose is not kinked and follows the placement instructions in the exact model manual.
- Do not remove the screw or holder that secures the drain hose to the back of the washer.
Use only documented inlet-filter access
- If the owner manual supports a user-accessible filter check, turn off the water-supply valves and disconnect power before disconnecting a hose.
- Stop if the filter is not readily accessible or the hose cannot be disconnected and reconnected without damage or leakage.
Power cycle only after troubleshooting
- After correcting a documented hose or supply issue, unplug the washer or turn off its circuit breaker for one minute, then restore power and try one cycle.
- A power cycle can clear the displayed code without fixing its cause. If the code returns, do not repeatedly reset it because that can erase diagnostic history useful to a technician.
Actions not recommended
- Do not remove washer panels or access internal valves, wiring, sensors, or controls.
- Do not disconnect a supply hose while its water valve is open.
- Do not repeatedly power cycle the washer when the code returns.
When to stop and request service
- The code continues after the visible supply, valve, hose, and model-supported filter checks and one documented power cycle.
- The washer fills continuously; turn off the water-supply valves and request service.
- A hose or connection is damaged or leaking, or internal inspection would be required.
