Electrolux documents Door Ajar as an alarm for a refrigerator or freezer door left open for about five minutes. Closing the door normally should stop the alarm on applicable models, though a model may also require acknowledging the alert.

  1. Identify which door is not closing normally

    • Record the Door Ajar alert and check each refrigerator and freezer door from the outside.
    • Do not force a hinge, mullion, or drawer that is binding.

  2. Remove visible closing obstructions

    • Reposition food, bins, or packaging that prevents a normal close.
    • Inspect only visible gaskets and contact surfaces, cleaning debris according to the owner manual.

  3. Close and acknowledge the alarm

    • Close the door fully and wait for the alarm to stop.
    • If the exact model requires Alarm Reset, Set, or CLEAR ALERTS, use that normal control after the door is closed.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not tape, bypass, magnet-trick, or defeat a door switch or sensor.
  • Do not remove hinge covers, wiring panels, or internal trim solely to silence the alarm.
  • Do not keep food in a cabinet that is not maintaining safe temperature because a door will not seal.

When to stop and request service

  • Door Ajar remains with all doors visibly closed and unobstructed.
  • A hinge, drawer, gasket, mullion, latch, or door is damaged or cannot close normally.
  • The cabinet also develops a persistent H, HI, or High Temp alarm or requires internal door-sensor diagnosis.
