What may contribute
Possible causes
- A drain hose may be restricted or incorrectly routed.
- An air gap may be clogged on installations that use one.
- A disposer knockout plug may still be installed or the disposer connection may be restricted.
Start conservatively

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.
Record the code and installation
- Write down FTD or F56 and the dishwasher model number.
- Identify whether the dishwasher drains through a disposer or air gap.
Check external drain items
- Inspect the visible drain hose for obvious kinks.
- Clean the air gap or confirm the disposer knockout-plug condition only where safely accessible and manual-supported.
Stop before internal diagnosis
- If the code returns or water remains, request service.
- Do not open pump, wiring, or control areas.
Actions not recommended
- Do not reach into standing water while power is connected.
- Do not remove panels to access internal drain parts.
- Do not perform plumbing changes beyond the model instructions.
When to stop and request service
- FTD or F56 remains after accessible drain checks.
- The disposer, air gap, or hose cannot be inspected safely.
