Samsung Dishwasher 1E / IE Error Code

1E / IE is model-dependent on Samsung dishwashers. The safest first step is to identify the exact model before acting, because a filter-cleaning procedure for a WaterWall machine is not the same as the documented response for a rotary model.

The dishwasher detected either restricted filter flow on a WaterWall model or an excessive-temperature heater condition on a rotary model.

What may contribute

Possible causes

  • On a WaterWall model, water is not passing through the fine filter as expected because the filter needs cleaning.
  • On a rotary model, the dishwasher detected an internal temperature that is too high.
  • A persistent code after the manufacturer-supported branch is completed requires service rather than parts guessing.

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Identify the exact model and dishwasher design

    • Photograph 1E / IE and find the full model number before resetting the dishwasher.
    • Use the Samsung owner manual or model support page to determine whether the dishwasher uses the WaterWall system or a rotary spray system.

  2. WaterWall models: clean only the documented fine filter

    • Turn the dishwasher off and let hot components and water cool before touching the filter area.
    • Follow the exact model manual for removal, cleaning, and reinstallation of the fine filter. Do not reach into the sump or pump cavity.
    • If the code returns after the filter is correctly cleaned and reinstalled, request service.

  3. Rotary models: follow Samsung’s documented reset test

    • Switch dishwasher power off for about 30 seconds and restore power using the normal control or circuit breaker identified for the appliance.
    • With the dishwasher empty, use the normal detergent amount and run the manufacturer-directed Normal cycle.
    • Do not open the dishwasher mid-cycle to touch hot water or internal components. If 1E / IE returns, request service.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not assume WaterWall filter instructions apply to a rotary dishwasher, or vice versa.
  • Do not remove service panels, reach into the pump/sump, bypass switches, or test the heater or live wiring.
  • Do not treat 1E / IE as proof that the heater, pump, filter, sensor, or control must be replaced.

When to stop and request service

  • The code returns after the exact model-supported filter procedure or rotary reset test.
  • The filter is damaged, cannot be reinstalled securely, or access differs from the owner manual.
  • There is overheating, smoke, burning odor, leaking, repeated breaker trips, or any need to inspect the heater, pump, sensors, or wiring.
