LG washer CL Status Message

On supported LG washers, CL is a control-lock status message rather than proof of a washer failure. LG says the feature can remain enabled after a cycle and even after the washer is powered off.

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Confirm that CL is the displayed message

    • Photograph the display and confirm the full model number before changing settings.
    • Look for a lock icon, Child Lock, Control Lock, or CL marking on the control panel and in the owner manual.

  2. Use only the model-designated unlock control

    • Power the washer on, then use the Child Lock / Control Lock button or button combination identified for the exact model.
    • LG commonly uses a press-and-hold action, but the exact button or pair of buttons varies. Do not guess a combination from a different model.

  3. Confirm normal control response

    • After CL or the lock indicator clears, confirm that the normal controls respond without forcing buttons.
    • If CL remains or the designated buttons are unresponsive, stop repeated attempts and request model-specific support.

  • Do not treat CL by itself as proof that the control board, door lock, or another component has failed.
  • Do not pry, force, or repeatedly strike unresponsive control-panel buttons.
