LG Dryer dE Error Code

LG identifies dE as a door-closing condition. Begin with the lint filter, trapped laundry, visible door condition, and normal closure; the code alone does not identify a failed latch or switch.

Applies to LG dryer

What the appliance detected

Detected condition

The dryer door is not completely closed.

What may contribute

Possible causes

  • The lint filter is not pushed fully into place.
  • Clothing is caught at the door.
  • The door is not firmly closed or is visibly misaligned.
  • A new dryer has visible door or frame damage, such as a bent door.

Start conservatively

Safe preliminary checks

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Record the code and exact model

    • Photograph or write down dE before disconnecting power.
    • Confirm the full model number and owner manual because door arrangements can differ.
  2. Check the accessible door opening

    • Turn the dryer off and wait for the drum to stop completely before opening the door.
    • Push the lint filter fully into its normal position and remove any laundry caught at the door.
    • Look for visible misalignment or damage without forcing, bending, or adjusting the door or latch.
  3. Close the door normally

    • Close the door firmly without slamming or forcing it.
    • If a new dryer has a bent door or other visible damage, stop and contact the dealer rather than trying to reshape it.
  4. Use LG documented power cycling once

    • If there is no visible damage, unplug the dryer or switch off its dedicated circuit breaker, wait five seconds, and restore power.
    • Close the door firmly, select a cycle, and press Start. If dE returns, stop and request service rather than repeating the reset.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not force the door, bend or adjust the latch, or bypass a door switch or other safety device.
  • Do not reach into a moving drum or operate the dryer when the door will not stay securely closed.
  • Do not remove panels or access internal door, latch, switch, or wiring components.

When to stop and request service

  • Contact the dealer when a new dryer has visible door or frame damage.
  • Request appliance service when dE returns after the supported door checks and one documented power cycle.
  • Stop using the dryer if the door will not stay closed, the latch is damaged, or any internal inspection would be required.
