What the appliance detected
Detected condition
The dryer detected something abnormal with the voltage being supplied to it.
What may contribute
Possible causes
- The dryer is not on its own circuit or is connected through an extension cord.
- On an electric dryer, the power cord is not installed properly or the supplied voltage is incorrect.
- The dryer is being used outside the country where it was sold, where the power grid or regulations may differ.
- With some stacked multi-control installations, the washer may report a dryer 9C1 shortly after washer startup because of a documented software condition.
Start conservatively
Safe preliminary checks
Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.
Record the exact code and model
- Photograph or write down whether the display shows 9C1, 9E, 2E, or 9E1 before clearing anything.
- Confirm the full model number, owner manual, whether the dryer is gas or electric, and whether a multi-control kit is installed.
Stop for electrical warning signs
- Stop using the dryer for sparking, a burning odor, scorching, unusual heat at the plug or outlet, visible cord damage, or another electrical warning sign.
- Switch off the circuit from a safe location and contact a licensed electrician rather than touching a damaged or hot connection.
Check the external supply arrangement
- Confirm that the dryer is on its own circuit and is not using an extension cord.
- For an electric dryer, have the installer or a licensed electrician confirm power-cord installation and supplied voltage. Do not open the terminal block or test voltage yourself.
Check the documented multi-control case if it applies
- If a washer connected through a multi-control kit reports dryer 9C1 within five seconds of turning on the washer, Samsung identifies a software case rather than a direct voltage diagnosis.
- For that exact setup, add the dryer to SmartThings and check for Samsung updates. Follow the app and model instructions, and expect the dryer to be unresponsive while an update installs.
Actions not recommended
- Do not open an outlet, junction box, service panel, terminal block, or power-cord connection, and do not test live voltage or wiring.
- Do not treat the code family as proof that an internal dryer component has failed.
- Do not reset before completing the applicable troubleshooting or repeatedly clear a returning code; Samsung warns that resetting erases error history useful to a technician.
When to stop and request service
- Use a licensed electrician or qualified installer for power-cord installation, supplied-voltage, outlet, or household-wiring concerns.
- Request Samsung service if the code continues after the applicable external supply or multi-control software checks.
- Stop immediately for sparking, burning odor, scorching, unusual heat, visible damage, or another electrical hazard.
