Safe preliminary checks

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Record the code, model, and rating

    • Photograph or write down nP before resetting the breaker.
    • Confirm the full model number, owner manual, and rating plate so the documented supply requirements are clear.

  2. Stop for electrical warning signs

    • Stop using the dryer for sparking, a burning odor, scorching, unusual heat at the plug or outlet, a loose outlet, or visible cord damage.
    • Do not touch a damaged cord, plug, or hot outlet; switch off the circuit from a safe location and contact a licensed electrician.

  3. Check only the external power connection

    • Without opening or touching any electrical connection, confirm that an undamaged power cord is fully inserted into the grounded outlet specified by the rating plate.
    • Do not use an extension cord or adapter and do not remove an outlet cover or dryer panel.

  4. Reset the dedicated breaker once

    • At the home electrical panel, switch the dryer circuit breaker fully off for at least ten seconds, then restore it.
    • If nP remains, have the outlet and supplied voltage checked by a licensed electrician. Do not test live voltage yourself.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not open the outlet, dryer service panel, terminal block, power-cord connection, or any other electrical enclosure.
  • Do not test live voltage, continuity, resistance, wiring, or internal heater components.
  • Do not repeatedly reset the breaker or treat nP as proof that the heater needs replacement.

When to stop and request service

  • Request a licensed electrician when the cord, plug, outlet, breaker, household wiring, or supplied voltage may be involved.
  • Request appliance service if a qualified electrician confirms the supply is correct and the dryer still does not heat or nP remains.
  • Stop immediately for sparking, burning odor, scorching, unusual heat, a damaged cord or outlet, or another electrical hazard.
