LG Washer OE Error Code

OE is a drain-related condition. It means draining did not complete as expected, but the code alone does not identify which part of the drain path needs attention.

Applies to LG front-load washers

What the washer detected

Detected condition

The washer was unable to drain the water used during the cycle.

What may contribute

Possible causes

  • A visible drain hose that is kinked or obstructed.
  • A clogged, user-accessible drain-pump filter on a model designed with that access point.
  • Excessive suds interfering with effective draining.
  • A drain pump that is not operating properly.

Start conservatively

Safe preliminary checks

Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.

  1. Record the code and model number

    • Photograph or write down OE before restarting the washer.
    • Confirm the full model number so you can follow instructions written for that washer.
  2. Inspect the visible drain hose

    • Look for a visible kink, compression, or obstruction that can be checked without removing panels or moving the washer unsafely.
    • Use the installation and owner documentation to confirm the hose is positioned as intended for the model.
  3. Check a supported, user-accessible pump filter

    • Only continue if the washer design and its manual identify a homeowner-accessible drain-pump filter and support this procedure.
    • Power off and unplug the washer first. Prepare towels and a shallow container because residual water may spill while the washer is drained and the filter is opened.
    • Follow the model documentation for draining residual water, cleaning the filter, and reinstalling every cap and filter securely.
  4. Review detergent use

    • If excessive suds were present, follow the detergent type and amount specified for the washer before trying another supported cycle.

Actions not recommended

  • Do not treat OE as proof that the drain pump needs replacement.
  • Do not remove appliance panels or access the internal pump, wiring, or other live components.
  • Do not open a drain filter area while the washer is powered or without preparing for residual water.

When to stop and request service

  • The drain pump does not appear to operate during a model-supported check.
  • OE returns after the visible hose and supported filter or suds checks are complete.
  • The filter is not safely accessible, the washer cannot be drained safely, or a leak or electrical concern is present.
