What the washer detected
Detected condition
dE means the washer was unable to lock the door. LG describes dE and dE1 as a door that is not closed properly, while dE2 means the door is closed but not locked.
What may contribute
Possible causes
- For dE or dE1, laundry caught between the door and the rubber door gasket can keep the door from closing properly.
- For dE2, too much laundry or an item caught at the door or gasket can prevent a secure lock.
- For dE2, LG also identifies a bent or broken door latch as a possibility that requires service rather than homeowner repair.
Start conservatively
Safe preliminary checks
Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.
Record the exact code and model number
- Photograph or write down whether the display shows dE, dE1, or dE2 before resetting the washer.
- Confirm the full model number because door and lock arrangements can differ.
Wait for the washer to stop
- Use the normal controls to stop the washer, then wait for all drum movement to end and for the door to release normally.
- Never force the door or bypass its lock.
Check the visible door area
- Look for laundry caught between the door and rubber gasket and move it fully back into the drum.
- If the load is pressing against the door, reduce it before trying to close the door again.
- Do not manipulate a latch that appears bent, broken, or loose.
Open and close the door normally
- Open the door, confirm the opening is clear, and close it securely without slamming or forcing it.
Perform the documented reset
- Power off and unplug the washer, or switch off its dedicated circuit breaker.
- With power disconnected, press and hold Start/Pause for five seconds, then restore power and try again.
Actions not recommended
- Do not force the door, bypass the door lock, or reach into a moving drum.
- Do not bend, adjust, or replace the latch or lock based on the code alone.
- Do not remove panels or access internal door-lock wiring or components.
When to stop and request service
- dE, dE1, or dE2 continues after the visible obstruction, load, door-closing, and documented reset checks.
- The latch appears bent, broken, or loose, or the door cannot close normally.
- Any internal inspection of the latch, lock, wiring, or door mechanism would be required.
