What the washer detected
Detected condition
The washer is having difficulty balancing the load.
What may contribute
Possible causes
- Laundry distributed unevenly in the drum.
- A load amount that is unsuitable for the washer or cycle.
- A cycle or spin setting that is unsuitable for the load.
- A washer that is not level and stable.
Start conservatively
Safe preliminary checks
Work in order and stop whenever a step is not supported by the documentation for your model.
Record the code and model number
- Photograph or write down whether the display shows UE or Ub.
- Confirm the full model number before following any instructions beyond these general checks.
Wait for all movement to stop
- Pause or stop the washer using its normal controls and wait until the drum has stopped completely and the door unlocks normally.
- Never reach into a moving drum or bypass a door lock.
Redistribute and adjust the laundry
- Spread tangled or uneven items more evenly in the drum.
- Adjust a load that appears too small, too large, or otherwise unsuitable, using the model documentation as the guide.
Confirm the cycle choice
- Use a cycle and spin setting appropriate for the type and amount of laundry, as described in the owner documentation.
Check that the washer is stable and level
- Confirm the washer rests firmly without rocking and appears level.
- Use the installation instructions for model-supported leveling adjustments rather than improvising supports.
Actions not recommended
- Do not reach into the drum until it has completely stopped and the door has unlocked normally.
- Do not bypass a lock, continue operating an unstable washer, or improvise supports under the appliance.
- Do not treat UE or Ub as proof that an internal component is defective.
When to stop and request service
- The code continues during an empty test cycle after the basic supported load, cycle, stability, and leveling checks.
- The washer cannot be made stable using its documented installation procedure.
- The door does not unlock normally or any internal inspection would be required.
